Horse-drawn Ambulance, Bellevue Hospital c. 1900
Bellevue Hospital is credited with organizing the first systematic ambulance system in the United States. This system, based on a Civil War model, debuted in June of 1869. The horse-drawn ambulance was constructed by the Abbot-Downing Company.
