William’s letter uses suicided as a verb
and really why not? The finite action
verb—without an introduction, unreduced by
other verbs, other introductory phrases
there on the page like the remaining sad facts—
the widow, the father…you know what all I mean
the whys and what ifs and if only I’d knowns
mowed down like a failing meadow in
October, fodder now for other animals,
something dry to chew on
all winter long.
